  Nikko Toshogu    

Many stairs in Nikko Toshogu Shrine. No ramp and no lift. This is an UNESCO World Heritage. THe shrine says that it is very difficult to make it wheelchair accessible. One volunteer group (Nikko Shakai Fukushi Kyogikai) would help wheelchair visitors. 4-6 members carry a wheelchair up and down stairs. However, you need booking by telephone in advance. There are also many steps and stairs in Rinnouji Temple and Futarasan Shrine. Wheelchair users can enjoy seeing from the outside. Tobu Railway Nikko Station is wheelchair accessible.  http://www.toshogu.jp/

  Waterfalls

A very famous Kegon waterfall in deep Nikko mountains. Two lifts to the observation deck there, but 5 steps at the observation deck. Yutaki falls is more wheelchair accessible.  Many hotels around Lake Chuzenji. The best season is autumn when leaves turn red. Heavy traffic jam is expected on the winding hill roads in autumn.

  Kinugawa Onsen  
A popular Onsen area near Nikko. Train stations are not perfectly accessible. Some stations have  only stairs. " Kinugawa Onsen Hotel " and " Asaya Hotel " are wheelchair friendly though they do not have special rooms for wheelchair users. There are accessible ramps in public places and in large public baths.

  Monkey theatre    
Traditional monkey show and exhibition . Monkeys play street performance, comic show, dance and sports. 3-4 times performance in a day. The ticket price is 2,000 yen for adult. Some facility for wheelchair users.

  Edo Wonderland    
Samurai and Ninja period theme park, Edo wonderland studios. Free wheelchair rental services are available. All the theaters are wheelchair accessible. Wooden ramp at old houses. Street in the park are completely flat and 3 wheelchair large toilets inside. Wheelchair users are not allowed to enter some facilities and old style wooden buildings.

  Tobu World Square     
1/25 size miniature world. We can see famous world famous buildings and ruins just in 1 day. Fully wheelchair accessible. But public transportation is not wheelchair accessible.

  Oze   
A national park. Japan's secret nature place in deep mountains. For a long time wheelchair users was not able to go there, but wide wooden path ( 500m ) opened in 2000 at Oshimizu area near car parking spot. The wheelchair access is only north side from Fukushima. A barrier free wooden path also opened in 2008. This path is 1.5m wide and 500m long. Yes, now it is wheelchair accessible.
